You can find all of the following permanently in the About page located up top. Just thought it would be a good way to set things off….
The name: Props to Sheri for pointing out the obvious and telling me I had a good name for this site, which I’d already written myself in this piece. I look at the name “Posted in the Parking Lot” a few ways. First, the reference to one of my favorite songs ever, See What I Can Pull. Second, I’d rather be in the parking lot chilling with close friends and good/cheap drank than in the club where I can’t hear anybody, the music blows and drinks are $7 and weak. That goes for the whole vibe of this site as well. I’d rather spend some time and write some longer, more thoughtful pieces (that actually display some thought, some criticism, some of my voice) and talk about them even if it means only posting as little as once a week (though I’m aiming for 2-4, call me out on it) than post videos, stray MP3s, mediafire links, etc. ad nauseam with no insight that you could probably have found already in the sites on my blogroll. Not to say I won’t post videos or MP3s, but if I do, it’s because I have something to say about it. Lastly, big metaphor time, I feel like the current Seattle hip-hop scene is in the parking lot waiting to get in the club. Sure, national players give dap as they head in, but for the most part, local artists aren’t getting into the VIP section yet if they get in the door at all. Seattle is starting to get attention and respect locally, now it’s time to take this shit global. I can’t wait to see it happen.
JoeyMC: The pen name stems from a rap I performed for a freshman year history class (which was fucking DOPE mind you) with hisSTORY aka Jasper T. Ever since my dad bought me the Nutty Professor 2 soundtrack even though it had a parental advisory sticker I’ve been obsessed with hip-hop and wanted to be a part of it. I dreamed of being an emcee, but quickly realized I might don’t got it and turned to another closely-related creative medium – writing. Like the artists I profile, praise, analize and critique, I’m creating something here. I’m putting pen to paper. Respect my flow. But please join the discussion – say something about what I’m saying like what I’m saying about what rappers are saying. Ya dig.
great words: “as far as songs about substances, Devin’s have more substance…” or something along those lines. What’s good in the South, Joe? You know that’s my shit!
Playboy Tre. My review of his new mixtape/album will be up real soon.
Sounds promising, look forward to seeing what you select to cover. Diggin the Tanya Morgan show review, check out an interview I did with them after the show over at the Members Only blog.
